CHCSS00098 -Individual Support -Disability Skill Set

This skill set is designed to address training gaps within the disability sector and to provide disability workers with higher level skills to support high quality care. You will learn how to facilitate and empower people with a disability using a strengths-based approach. You will learn how to encourage and nurture self determination through on-going skill development. You will develop further insight into behaviour and how to provide a positive, nurturing and safe environment as well as how to support, encourage and foster inclusion while addressing social participation within the community.

This skill set has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who:

  • hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field; or
  • have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process

Units of competency:

  • CHCDIS001 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
  • CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
  • CHCDIS003 Support community participation and social inclusion
  • CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability

CHCSS00073-Case Management Skill Set

This skill set covers the skill requirements for case management activities and work throughout the health and community services sector. The Case Management Skill Set will enable students to develop their skills to support participants within the Community Services Sector. You will develop your skills around Case Management activities with respect to the legislation. You’ll develop an understanding of how to assess the needs of a diverse group of people, coordinate their case requirements and advocate for their needs.

This skill set reflects the skill requirements for team leaders or managers to coordinate, mentor and lead teams and individuals. Specifically, this skill set is for those individuals that have the important role of leading, managing or influence staff within disability organisations or aspire to hold those roles.

With the disability workforce growing at a rapid rate, there is a rising need for qualified leaders to effectively manager/influence/lead this workforce to ensure the best possible service is provided to participants. In order to support this need, this skill set will provide the personal tools to effectively lead while navigating the ever changing needs of the disability sector.

CHCSS00094 – High Support and Complex Care – Disability Skill Set

This skill set is designed to support those who are already working in Community Services with disability clients to develop skills to enable them to support clients who have complex needs and require a high level of care.

Horizon2 currently delivers this skill set to Existing Worker in the Disability services sector, which includes parents and unpaid carers of NDIS participants. In order to eligible for enrolment individuals must already hold a Certificate III or higher-level qualification in the Community Services and Health industry.

Units of Competency:

CHCDIS004 Communicate using augmentative and alternative communication strategies

CHCDIS005 Develop and provide person-centred service responses

CHCDIS010 Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs

HLTHPS007 Administer and monitor medications

CHCSS00096 – Disability Work – Behaviour Support Skill Set

This skill set will prepare you to provide person-centred support to people with a disability in a range of community services and health contexts.

Learn how to follow and contribute to an individual plan to implement behaviour support strategies and support the ongoing skills development of a person with a disability. Gain skills to facilitate the empowerment of people with a disability and deliver rights-based services using a person-centred approach. You’ll also discover how to assist people with a disability to maximise their participation in various community settings to enhance their psychosocial well-being.

Student must be an Existing Worker in the Disability industry sector, which includes parents and unpaid carers of NDIS participants.  Additionally individuals undertaking this skill set must  hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in an area involving provision of direct client care or support or have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process.

CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports

CHCDIS006 Develop and promote positive person-centred behaviour supports

CHCSS00074 – Child Protection (Skill Set)

This skill set is designed to assist individuals working with Children in a variety of Community Service settings to learn about the legal and ethical responsibilities involved and to identify any signs of trauma, risk or harm.  This skill set will enable you to develop fundamental skills to ensure you are best equipped to work with young people and help ensure their safety.

To be eligible for enrolment in this skill set you will need to hold a minimum of a Certificate III or higher, in a Community Services, Health or related field qualifications and be employed in a direct contact role with children, youth and families.
